Steam distilled from fresh partially dried leaves (grass), Lemongrass has a fresh, grassy-citrus scent and an earthy undertone. (West Indian lemongrass tends to darker than the Eastern Indian type).
It is a fast-growing, tall, aromatic perennial grass up to 1.5 meters high, producing a network of roots and rootlets that rapidly exhaust the soil. Native to Asia, there are two main types: West Indian and East Indian types. There are several varieties of this grass but the East and West Indian types are the most common, Chemotypes within each variety are also quite pronounced.
